Custom software

For businesses whose problem no off-the-shelf product actually solves

The problem

Most businesses reach us after trying the obvious things. A spreadsheet that three people edit at once. An off-the-shelf tool that does eighty percent of the job and quietly breaks on the other twenty. Or a system someone built years ago that nobody left in the building understands.

The common thread is that the work has outgrown the tool, and the cost of the gap is now measured in hours of manual reconciliation every week.

How we approach it

  1. 01

We start with the data model, because it is the decision that is most expensive to change later. Get the shape of the domain right and the screens are comparatively easy; get it wrong and every feature after it fights the schema.

  2. 02

Then we build in vertical slices. One complete path through the system, working end to end, in front of you early. That way you are correcting a real thing rather than approving a document.

  3. 03

We deploy from day one, to a real environment, with real monitoring. Software that has only ever run on a laptop is not evidence of anything.

What you get

  • A running system, deployed, with the pipeline that deploys it
  • The source, in your repository, under your account
  • A documented data model and API surface
  • Tests over the parts where correctness actually matters
  • A handover walkthrough with whoever will maintain it

Engagement

Shape
A defined system with an agreed scope, or an ongoing build team
Duration
Typically 6 to 16 weeks for a first production release

Every engagement is scoped and priced after we understand what you need. We will tell you if the work is smaller than you think.

Where we have done this

A payment platform, built and operated

CitaPay is ours: a payment platform handling M-Pesa collections and payouts, with a versioned public API, signed webhooks, idempotent requests and a sandbox that runs against the provider's real test environment. It is not a prototype. It processes money for businesses today, and we are the ones on call for it.

Tell us what you are trying to build

If we are the wrong people for it, we will say so and point you somewhere better.
